DESCRIPTION: Jacob Guthart, Lebanon, Penn., tall clock, 8 day, time and strike, weight driven movement in a handsome cherry case with broken arch pediment set with concentric turned rosettes, three wooden finials, full columns flanking hood, shaped trunk door flanked by fluted quarter columns over base with matching quarter columns and recessed panel on bracket feet with cutout skirt. The painted metal is signed by maker and has moon phase, calendar and seconds bit. The dial was made and signed by "NOLEN'S MANUFACTY BOSTON ".
CONDITION: the case retains its original finish. The period Pennsylvania case is appropriate to this movement, but has indications that it is associated. The center plinth is cracked below the cap and needs to be reglued. An approximately 4" piece of molding at the rear of the hood is broken and will need to be reattached. The trunk door has been restored with a wood panel after having been glazed in the past. The dial has minor flaking but is in otherwise good condition.
